Who we are

What we do

The Green Point Neighbourhood Watch (GPNW) works closely with SAPS and local security companies to report criminal and suspicious activity in the area. We are part of the Community Policing Forum (CPF), which means we can make sure the community’s concerns about security and police conduct in the area are heard.

In addition, we work closely with our Ward Councillor, the Green Point City Improvement District (GPCID) and other relevant civic organisations to ensure that environmental and other factors that might impact criminal activity in the area are addressed.

But ultimately, we are a network of engaged members of the community – your support and involvement make us stronger together!

Our Mission

The Green Point Neighbourhood Watch (GPNW) is committed to reducing crime in Green Point and building a safer community by working in partnership with SAPS, Law Enforcement and local security companies to implement responsible and effective community-level crime prevention initiatives. Crime prevention requires actions that reduce the actual levels of crime and reduce perceived fear of crime in the community.

Our objectives are to:

  • Prevent crime by improving security, increasing vigilance, creating and maintaining a caring community and reducing opportunities for crime by increasing awareness of effective crime prevention measures.
  • Assist SAPS and other law enforcement agencies in detecting crime by promoting effective communication and the prompt reporting of suspicious and criminal activity – by being the eyes and ears for the police within the community.
  • Serve as a channel to hold SAPS and other law enforcement organisations accountable to the community.
  • Monitor crime trends and liaise with SAPS and other civic organisations to ensure that changes in crime patterns in the area are being addressed proactively.
  • Encourage residents to adopt practices and behaviours that minimize crime.
  • Reduce undue fear of crime by providing accurate information about risks and by promoting a sense of security and community spirit, particularly amongst the more vulnerable members of our community.
  • Initiate and manage programmes, projects and other crime prevention initiatives that increase the safety of the community.

Responsible initiatives are initiatives that are legal and equitable, transparent and inclusive and open to all interested members of the Green Point community.
